Built by the Kaiser-Jeep Corporation from 1965 until purchased by American Motors Corporation in 1970. In 1967, the Kaiser Jeep Corporation 1967 was awarded a contract by the U.S. Post Office for the production of the 1/4-ton DJ-5 Dispatcher. The postal service, police departments, utility companies and small package delivery firms all used this rugged and durable delivery vehicle.
In 1971 the Government Products Division became a separate subsidiary of AMC known as AM General Corporation. Over 136,000 DJ-5’s were built the majority were right hand drive for US Mail after a time and motion study proved that being RHD saved at least an hour a day on deliveries. Some LHD models were used by the US Navy and a few were sold to the public.
This 1983 AMG Jeep Ex-US Mail Postal van AMC 150 cu.in. (2500cc) 4 cylinder petrol, 3 speed Chrysler 904 TorqueFlite auto, was imported from California in June 1994.
