Austin Maxi August 1973

This car was a dealership demonstrator until February 1974. One elderly gentleman owned it until August 2010 when it left Chigwell for the first time having covered just 64,000 miles, before going into preservation.

BODY WORK: Remove all rust!: rebuild the car with both front wings, both rear arches, four door bottoms, new front valance, all wheels shot blasted and powder coated, new stainless steel exhaust throughout, new tailgate fittings and a temporary re-spray until conformation of all rust cured. Inside to be done: front seats with new vinyl covers, then new carpets during next bare metal re-spray.

ENGINE OUT: New clutch friction and pressure plates, new core plugs, new timing chain and tensioners, cylinder head skimmed, pressure tested and new gaskets, new distributor, new starter motor, new brake master cylinder.

The Maxi still has no near side mirror or radio but has most of the rattles and squeaks it left the factory with! The amount spent was eye watering . . .
