Bexhill 100 Classic & Custom Car Show August 2014

Our 10th annual show was as usual held on August Bank Holiday Monday.

The show went ahead despite the awful weather; it rained all day, and the weather news reported that we had approximately 38mm of rain!

The marshals and the rest of the team were at the show ground by 07:00 and waited with bated breath to see whether the rain would stop, and how many people and cars would turn up. At last count, the total number of cars the turned out was 151 and considering the weather, we thought that was amazing. A few trade stands also arrived; more hot food than anything else, which was very much appreciated.

The show was opened at 11:00 by Mrs Robin Adams (BARC  Ladies Champion in 1969) who was driven into the arena in a Ford Sierra Cosworth RS by Paul Brailsford. She was due to arrive in an open top Elva Courier but it was decided a hard top car was more appropriate when considering the inclement conditions.

Approximately 100 hardy members of the public braved the conditions, for which there was no charge. By early afternoon, cars started to make their way home.

The Mayor of Bexhill-on-Sea  Cllr. Brain Kentfield attended the show at 13:00 and stayed for the entertainment which was severely disrupted by the dreadful weather, but both Caroviolina and The Swing Thing entertained the crowd that had assembled in the main marquee which again, was greatly appreciated by those in attendance. The Noodle Bar gave away their food rather than throw it away, which was very much appreciated.

The rain continued to fall at the show's closing time of 16:00 and by then, most of the cars had gone home. We had to laugh or we would have cried, as we 'Carried on Regardless'!

Our sincere thank go to all those who helped put on the show, especially the Scouts who spent the weekend camping on the Polegrove.

Please view the few photographs below; as you will appreciate, there are not that many.
