New Year's Run - Sunday 5th January
It must have been the wettest New Year’s Run on record, but a full house turned out, although most classic cars were left in the dry and warm.
Meeting at the De La Warr Pavilion, Sue and Mark Hammett handed out the first lot of instructions and sent us on our merry way, heading out of Bexhill-on-Sea on towards Ninfield, Netherfield and Heathfield, gathering answers to the clues given out at the start. Rain still came down as we headed through Horam and out to our coffee stop at Blackbrooks Garden Centre on the A22.
A welcome stop and the first lot of answers were handed in. A few browsed around the place with some making purchases including Heidi, who couldn’t resist the Highland Cow slippers. The second lot of clues and directions given out before we all headed off in the rain, this time on a more rural route through Chalvington, Ripe and Golden Cross, where some roads were more suited to a dinghy than a car, and so we sailed our way through the countryside and ended back up on the main roads and headed towards our destination at the Sackville Bistro on the seafront in Bexhill.
The carvery had been pre-booked, so we were shown to our seats and with drinks ordered and carvery retrieved, we settled down to tales of our journey. Sue read out the answers and next day emailed those who attended to let them know that the winners were Brenda and Jeff.
A huge amount of work goes into planning and organising these runs, and I know that Mark and Sue have done the route countless times to ensure it all runs like clockwork. Thank you both for all the hard work.
Chris Speck, Chairman.
